My mother has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer and given 6-9 months to live. She was perfectly healthy up to a few months ago, and she always looked after my father who has various illnesses and cannot do much. Since the diagnosis last week I have had to move in to care for them fulltime and bring them to appointments etc. I am hoping to apply for carers allowance as I am self employed with my husband and now I don't have time to do my share of the work at all.
I was talking to a neighbour who applies for the benefit and she hasn't heard back 4 months later after sending the forms in as apparently there is a waiting list to process them.
I just want to find out if its possible to 'fast track' it in circumstances where someone mightn't have that long. Any help appreciated
