Is Illness Benefit/Jobseekers liable for tax?

Is illness benefit and jobseekers allowance taxable. Can revenue access whether one is paid this benefit and do they apply tax if they can do so

Jobseekers' Benefit is taxable. Jobseekers' Assistance is not taxable. (Go to www.revenue.ie and look for Leaflet IT24 for full explanation).

Illness Benefit and Short Term Occupational Injury Benefit are taxable (Leaflet 22 for full details).

I don't know if Revenue can access this information.

this is just one of the many things they won't tell tell you in the SW office, because in our silly system The Revenue Commissioners and Dept of Social Welfare are two seperate organs, and you will be sent from Peter to Paul.

Good news today, FAS is aparently to come under the umbrella of the Dept of Social Welfare.
