Just about to pour my finished floor, does any one have advice on what to do around the shower waste in terms of pipe work, should I pour concrete under the shower tray and all round the waste? or leave a space around the waste with wood battens for later access. Or not pour concrete under the shower at all and build up the shower base to the right height?

whats the norm?

Many install a stainless steel shower gully and slope the screed / slab to this gully avoiding the need for a shower tray. Its easy to waterproof concrete & tile over. It looks great and the shower can be used by disabled or eldery (sitting in a chair).

If unsure what to do, why not pour the slab without pouring any conc in the shower tray area. Then you can decide whats best at your leisure. Its easy to hand mix enought conc to fill a shower tray 900 x 900 x 150mm deep or 1200 x 900 x 150mm deep.
