Dear all,
I am leaving Ireland to undergo further training.
I will finish employment in Ireland at the end of May. I will move to an EU country for 6 months for further training earning minimum wage and then to the UK for a possible 6-12 months earning the an average wage.

My family will remain in Ireland. My wife is self employed and will earn approx €800 pm.

Ultimately, I hope to return to Ireland in 18-24 months to take up a permanent position.

I have been taxed at the higher PAYE rate at will be taxed as per norm in the other countries.

Am I considered tax resident in Ireland for 2018, having only worked 5 months?
I will pay tax in the other countries, do I still declare my income here?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yes you will be tax resident in 2018. However you should be entitled to split year relief which will give you a full years tax credits and rate bands for 2018. You may be able to obtain a refund now or you may need to file a tax return in 2018. Give the PAYE hotline a call and ask them.
