In-frame Kitchen

Hi All,
Am having a large kitchen made (by dad:)) and was hoping to have an in-frame kitchen made.
We will buy solid doors and my dad will make the MDF units himself, but will hopefully be able to buy the exposed 'frame'. There is a company in Tipperary that supply this 'frame', but he doesnt know the name of it and I cant find it on the net.
Can anyone help?

Have you tried running a few different options on Google and see if the companies named ring a bell with your Dad.

Your Dad may be better off buying in the cabinets themselves from any of a lot of places.. and making the doors himself. Making MDF carcases isn't easy... and they can be bought very cheaply. Check www.woodworkers.ie for prices of pre-made carcases. Doors however are what gives the kitchen it's distinctive look, so making the doors and buying the carcases is what most hobbyists do.. (hobbyists is spelt correctly, yes?)

He may be thinking of Tippo International who make and sell cabinet doors. (Well, they sell them anyway). Most places that sell doors also sell the frmaed doors, however they are usually a little different to what a bespoke kitchen maker would do.. i.e the frames are much narrower.

Cheers

Thanks for the help. MDF sheets for the kitchen will cost approx €450, solid oak doors are being bought from a supplier in Killarney for approx €3600 leaving the cost of handles, hinges etc and the labour for making the carcasses and fitting the kitchen.
Helps that Dad is a carpenter! This is for a large kitchen that will require approx 40 units/carcasses and doors (apparently average is 25).
We were quoted approx €15000 from numerous kitchen companies for mdf units with solid doors, and thats before granite worktops. What a profit!

Ok, sounds good and I'm sure you've thought it all through. It will be a lot of work however and I'd be concerned that the lack of specialist equipment will have an impact on the quality. I am thinking of a good panel saw with scoring blade and an edgebanding machine here... your best bet is to buy the MDF in pre edged strips.. i.e 570mm or 600mm for the carcase gables (sides) and 400mm or so for the shelving... you will also need a lot of backing material for the cabinets, I think it will cost a lot more than 450 to be honest, probably more like 1,000 and when the labour is considered I don't think it is cost effective...

See [broken link removed] for a hobbyist and professional orientated woodworking site (forum), no one there would recommend making standard MDF kitchen carcases.. in the same way that nobody would recommend making a wardrobe similar to one from Argos which might only cost 150 Euro... there is so much competition in kitchen carcases that the trade prices are at rock bottom.

Cheers and good luck
Joe

Have you tried pricing a kitchen with somewhere like Cash and Carry Kitchens. You supply the measurements, they design the kitchen with you specifying hardware, furniture, doors and they supply everything, including the kitchen sink and other appliances if necessary. They ship you ALL the raw materials and components (hinges, handles, fasteners, toe-boards, coving, shelving, counter-tops, doors for built-in units and you cut, build and install it yourself. I believe they can be very cost-competitive and they look after all the delivery / logistics, for a price of course.

You have nothing to lose by asking them to design and quote.

Husband carpenter...we got flat pack carcasses from heavins in athlone which he then built...much quicker option than complete self build and savings lost minimal...

As for handles, granite, etc search for sales, end of line etc.
