Does anyone know the implications of imporpting a VW CAMPER from the uk which has just run out of road tax and MOT.
I know I will have to pay VRT but it should be in the 50euros classic bracket since the van is over 30 years old.
Road tax shouldn't be a problem either, right?
But is the van required by Irish law to have a current UK MOT before importing?

I will be driving it to the ferry, T&T or no T&T

You are generally correct. Minimal VRT, no NCT, and nominal road tax once here. Classic insurance too.

You will need to get it taxed (refund avaialable on export) and MOT'd for it to be road legal however. UK traffic police are fairly tough, and I reckon it'd be unwise at least to take any risk.

You could always tow it back here.

You might get away with a £60stg "failure to display tax" in the UK but because it’s also not MOT'd, you could end up with a more serious fine or worse!
Would you consider car transporter?

I'd agree.
You'd be better off having the camper delivered to the ferry port on a trailer or lorry.
