My two year old very sneakily opened a tub of sudocream over the weekend when i wasnt looking and smeared the whole thing all over our sofa (not leather).

Ive tried your normal upholstery cleaners but no joy. Any suggestions please?? Ive got my landlord coming during the week to renew our leases and I dont think shes gonna be too impressed when shes sees it!

Thanking you in advance

A tempoarary solution for the landlord's visit might be a throw to cover the couch? If you're in Dublin Arnotts Bargain Basement do some good deals on these.

Have you tried the Vanish carpet/upholstery cleaner? Alternatively, have a look at a box of Persil to get their Careline number and ring up and ask what they recommend.

It is almost impossible to get out.....
Especially if you wet it.
Baby wipes will take a lot of the staining out.
But some baby talc on it to dry it up and then use the baby wipes to get it off.
Vanish does not work.
Maybe a specialist cleaning company may be needed.

Anything useful [broken link removed]? An almost identical thread in which somebody also suggests my solution! I like the one about spreading Sudocrem on the parts of the carpet that were not already stained to make it blend in... :D

Thanks guys,

BANHAM, agree with everything you said. That vanish is such crap. When i had professional guys in a few months ago cleaning my carpets they said to stay well away from the likes of vanish etc. Apparently all they do is strip the carpet of its colour etc.

JANET - Yeah, I had tried the Vanish but like I said above, its really rubbish. The sofa now has lighter patches than the rest!!

CLUBMAn - Thanks!! Taking your advice and 'throwing a throw' over for landlords visit! Will visit Arnotts tomorrow so. Also, enjoyed the thread with the sudocream on the carpet! Are you sure your not Heinrich from ivenus??!!! He suggested the exact same thing to me too!!

Liza - can see the similarities in some respects but I'm pretty such he's not Heinrich! Can just imagine Heinrich having said that, must take a visit back to iVenus sometime. :)

Sudocream is zinc/oil-based and almost impossible to remove completely from any porous surface. I know because I've had to try, several times over the years, and on everything from furniture to fabrics to emulsion-painted walls. It laughs in the face of proprietary cleaners like Vanish... :D

Put a cheap throw over it, and start saving for a new sofa (or better still, ask the landlord can you buy it from him/her!)

P.S. Intrigued at this 'Heinrich from iVenus' reference, had a quick peep at the website. Far too pink & purple for me, of course. Is there an equivalent (Irish) website for men?

[Edit: Clubman's post crossed mine. I'm afraid iMars.com is already taken! ;)
