Hello, looking for advice on marriage and tax please. At the moment we're seperately assessed but I'm wondering should we change? I earn approx E70, husband earns approx E55. Hopefully there will be no change to our incomes this year (although who knows!) although I will be on maternity leave later in the year and would hope to go back to work on a four day week for at least the first 6 months after that. Any advice would be great, thanks

I feel that it a good idea if married people are taxed jointly. While it won't make any difference to the amount of tax you pay normally as you are both on the higher rates there may be some advantage as you are going on maternity leave. At least you would have the opportunity to switch credits and SRCOP between you to the best advantage.

I have assumed here that you were taxed singly and now realise you said seperatly so you should be OK
Apologies
