Hi

im selling a property and just went sale agreed and its now in the hands of the solicitors. Between now and when I hand over the keys, I have been told the process could take 10-12 weeks. During that time, my house insurance is due to be renewed.

Am I obliged to renew the house insurance? Also if so, could I renew for a specified period rather than for the full year?

Any comments greatly appreciated.

If you intend for your house to be insured then yes renew. Once you dont change insurer or claim you will get a pro rata return. But you will have to pay for the year

Pay by the month, most insurers offer it,ONE DIRECT don't even charge you interest over the 10 months.

Common misconception. You arent paying by the month. You are availing of finance from the insurance company.
