Hi just curious on what people are paying on average for house insurance. I got a renewal quote of over 500 euro with axa. I live in a 3 bed semi. Have house alarm.

€450 for 380k blds, 62k contents, 3 bed plus attic conversion bungalow detached, Zurich, includes 30 of broker fee

Don't have an alarm but even if I had I wouldn't use it to get a discount, always a dodgy one because no one turns them on as much as they should.

I have an alarm. But I don't mention it because to avail of the discounts it needs to be installed properly, serviced regularly and you also are supposed to put it on. (Which I rarely do during the day if I leave the house briefly)

4-bed detached

2021 AVIVA = 342

255k + 30k contents + unspecified items away from home 5k

2022 AVIVA renewal invitation = 500, but ended up paying 450 with free annual travel insurance

I think you would need to provide more details as to what exactly the quote is covering to compare like for like

My own renewal just came in the other day
3 bed semi detached dormer bungalow in Blackrock Dublin
390K rebuild
90K contents
Nothing else just basic cover, no specified items or additional add ons and no alarm specified but do have one
NCB 40% and a building and contents excess of €1000

Paid €400.71 this time last year and this year the quote came in for €434.24 from Aviva
Hoping a quick phone call will get it closer to €400

Im just putting this in in case anyone finds it useful in the future....
4 bed semi detached new build in Dublin
750k rebuild
200k Contents
75k specified items (covered worldwide) mostly jewellery and watches

1.8k.....

Its the specified items that are the issue but if you dont get a specialist policy insurers are asking for annual valuations for everything which isnt feasible.

€350 with Axa - new customer and got a discount as my husband has his car insurance with them
4 bed semi detached Meath
€284k building cover
€40k contents
€5k specific cover
Monitored alarm

Kinda worried that the building cover is not enough reading the comments but pretty sure I checked the rebuilding ireland website at the time I might revisit this.

The PTSB is offering 3 months free cover worth up to €200. No affiliation. I was just told about it when looking at opening a savings account. Something worth remembering is demolition costs are not included in a rebuild.

Try BOI they use FBD & RSA Here's a promo code BAWCODE2250. Did a quote with them last night which came in at €560 or so my own renewal from AXA jumped from €480 to €726. The FBD code via BOI was also a good €200 cheaper than a quote I got direct from FBD

4 bed semi down the country, rebuild €320k, contents €80k. House is alarmed, no flood risk (I expect there will be a major focus on that from a quote perspective in certain parts of the country). Price was €380 from Aviva

Just received the renewal from AXA. Almost doubled to over €800. I can't understand that. I know everything has increased in price but 85%? Putting details into an online calculator brings up quotes starting at €806.

Any ideas? When filling in the quote screen it asks "how many bathrooms", we have only one bath but several shower rooms. Does an ensuite shower room count as a bathroom? We are rural, well away from large cities, a mile from a small town, detached, 5 bedrooms.

My renewal went up 20%, when I eventually got through to a human from Zurich it appears Zurich applied a 25% increase in the building sum insured value across all policies reflecting rebuilding cost as indicated in the SCSI calculator. First time this was done apparently.

I got my reminder from Chill this morning. Only EUR840 - an increase of ~EUR300 on last years premium without having made a claim.

  • An Post beat it with a rock bottom premuim - EUR696;)
  • Zurich - EUR559
  • FBD also beat it by quite a margin - ~450.

Just goes to show the price comparison providers are not comprehensive/competitive. Shop around folks & do it early but not too early. 20-26 days before renewal is due is optimal. I'm looking for the source of this data but can't put my hands on it right now. Apparently Clients that seek renewal quotations in that window are profiled as being lower potential risk.

I was renewing my car insurance with Kennco and happened to mention house insurance and was put onto the relevant staff member. They beat AXA by €164, at €648. By the wY, shower rooms count as 'bathrooms'.
Edited: misremembered the amount!

With Zurich. My renewal mid last year. Quote up about E70 on previous year - never had a claim. Rang them and they reduced to previous year cost - they quoted an offer on the original quote to do a three year deal at current price - I got them to agree at the reduced level so I did a three year deal at that stage - downside was I had to the pay the three years up front - upside was I fixed the cost at 2022 price up to 2026.

Hmm, that's interesting I havn't heard about tis previously. Any clauses about increases if you make a claim?
