Is it true that companys give time off for moving house - not taken from one's holiday days?

Sorry Bill, this is not case.

Perhaps you are confusing this with the 'relocation package' negotiated with certain employees on their transfer overseas or to a new location? These relocation packages may (or may not) include an element of paid time off to organise the move.

Its true in other countries, which might where you heard that? For example in switzerleand and in italy its the case.

A previous employer (large American multi-national) of mine did give people a day if they were moving house. Like most of the non-regulatory T&Cs, they vary from company to company.
