In the past 100 years, was there ever a situation where a country was in a similar economic situation to Ireland (massive bank bailout, public spending much bigger than taxes, high debt to gdp ratio) ?
I was wondering how did it play out in the other countries. Did they default on the public debt ? Did the bondholders get burned ?
Did any country ever pull themselves out of a situation like Irelands without some kind of default ?
