i am planning to set a hedge at the back of my house and am wondering what shrubs/trees are best for this, it is a large area so i dont want to use expensive plants. Some suggestions i have got are Grisilinia and escallonia. I want something to grow pretty quick.
Help!

http://www.futureforests.net sell specific hedging mixtures ie seaside, native, flowering, fruiting etc.

They send them in the post bare root, which means they're pretty cheap i.e. around €50 for 50 plants. Check them out.

We have about 150 metres of Griselinia and find it easy to manage and grows quite well and is evergreen. Sherman is right though buy bare root and you will get the plants cheaper - future forests seem to have a great choice though I haven't used them to date. If you are looking for mature plants you could check this crowd out but obviously the more mature the plants the dearer they will be.
