given an Acer laptop Aspire 4920 but dont have password, anyway around it?

I wa given an Acer laptop Aspire 4920 by someone who was clearing out their office,they had not used it for a long time and I was hoping to give it to my young daughter,
Now when I plugged in all was fine but then it asked for a password which no one know's what it is, I hae tried the usual admin,12345, but to no avail,

any idea how I could bypass the password ,all advice welcome pr do I have to bring it somewhere which will cost,

It has Vista, but I do have win 7 that I plan to put on it,just wondering can I install win 7 even though I dont know the password to get onto the laptop
 
Handier again that you have a Win7 disc. Boot from the W7 disc and do a clean install. You might get a warning that the drive is reserved for oem installation. Select "back" then drive options and delete the drive. Do the clean install then.
