Ford escort timing belt costs?

I has a 2000 ford escort which is due a timing belt in the next 10k miles. How much should it cost? I am being quoted €450 but I feel this is excessive.

Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Sounds excessive did you get the qoute from a ford garage.

Try a local good independant.

A mate has a garage had an escort in with a thread bare TB close is not the word.

1.4 petrol. €450 was advance pitstop.

 

[Caveat]

Good nixer mechanic will do this (+ waterpump) for €250 or less.

Advance Pitstop seem to have a questionable reputation also.

we do them for 200 euro incl water pump if thats any use to you.were in rathcoole in dublin and will do them while you wait

Its not the cost of the belt that bumps up the price, but the amount of labour envolved.

I got mine done (mazda demio) thru Mazda dealer last month, for €250 all in.

Some belts are more difficult to get at than others. afaik.

I have been quoted up to 1000K to get timing belt changed in Audi A6 Diesel 2LTDI . Did anyone do better than this
