Flying to LA - where to connect?

Is the perceived wisdom to still avoid Heathrow? If so, I'm being offered connections at JFK, Newark, Chicago or Philadelphia. Any advice on which might be easier? Flight times are roughly similar. Airlines are US Airways, Continental or United.

I personally would avoid Heathrow at all cost especially flying to the states. Newark or Philadelhia would probably be the easiest to transit through. The airlines you mentioned are also roughly similar in their approach to customer service i.e. not very good.
