Enurement Clause

We bought a house in Galway last year, and it has 10 yr enurement clause. We've heard different stories from talking to people in the council telling us that "no way could we ever sell the house within the ten years" now we do have a mortgage and the bank can definitely sell the house if we don't meet our mortgage repayments, so that's a load of old rubbish.

Our current dilemma is that we are thinking of emigrating, well it's an option that we'd like to keep open, but if we are unable to sell our house then obviously we won't be able to emigrate.

Does anyone know if there is any "exit" clause to the enurement clause?
Currently our solicitor and the council are back and forth but getting nowhere, one year has elapsed and we still haven't signed the enurement agreement. Any ideas where we stand having not signed it? Can we sell now before signing?

Anyone have any good link to site or document which really explains the ins and outs of the Enurement !

Your solicitor should have gone through this with you when you first signed for the house.

Go back to them and ask them what the situation is
