My sister has just been made redundant. She received a redundancy payment of approx €50,000. She sold her house for over €1million euro last year and has the money on deposit to purchase a new home but is currently renting. Her husband is in fulltime employment and is earning €100,000pa. They also own a number of investment properties which they have rented out. Her 3 childern are in private schools. She has told me she intends to "sign on". Is this possible? If so why is it not means tested.
