Electrical: 5 amp sockets

I wanted 5 amp sockets installed during a rewire which I could then switch on from the switch inside the door.

Due to some confusion, they have been installed.

Can I connect the door switch to one of the 13amp sockets?

Thanks.

the door switch is on a lighting circuit and should be backed up with a 6-10 amp mcb. normal sockets ie 13 amp sockets should be backed up with 16-20 amp mcb's. you would have run a 2.5 sq cable to switch and use a 20 amp double pole switch to switch 13 amp socket. it would be easier to wire 5 amps now than try and wire a 13 amp switched from the door. hope this helps

Brian,

Thanks for the reply.

That is what I did. Went and hired the chasing gear this afternoon and got the electrician's side-kick to do it. All done now.

Thanks again.

While I'm on it.........any views on the different brands of CAT 5 switch boxes and where to source them in Dublin? I want to be able to move things around at the CAT box, so I'd like the box to be as flexible as possible.

Thanks.

D.
