drainpipe smell

I'm getting a horrible drainpipe smell in my kitchen . . .it seems to be coming from in behind the units where the dishwasher should be (but isn't). No smell from the washing machine or the sink.

Anyone know what I can do about this.

The external gully or some part of the pipework could be clogged with grease and maybe retaining foul water. Try cleaning with caustic soda.

had one of these once - turned out to be a dirty wet dishcloth that had fallen behind the units........

I had this in the cupboard under my stairs. Turned out it was a four month old cheese sandwich in my son's jacket pocket!!!!!

is the wastepipe for the dishwasher still there if so id say this is the cause if you have nothing connected to it put a plastic bag around the top to seal it with tape for a few days and see if the smell subsides if ti does you can get a cap fitting in diy shops to permantally seal the waste outlet
