Hi, We have a problem with our dogs peeing in the house, They are confined to the utility room by night as they are house dogs and one of them pees on the paper we have laid down but the other guy pees wherever it suits him, We clean the room thoroughly every morning with bleach and water but the smell persists no matter what we with do, If any one has any tips on how to get rid of the smell I would appreciate it, Regards Cumnor.

You could try diluting baking soda in water and cleaning the area with that. baking soda is a good odor neutraliser.

I wonder though why your dogs are unable to go the night without peeing? Are they puppies? Are they drinking more in the hot weather? perhaps taking them for a walk before bedtime is the answer?

The fact that you're cleaning with bleach may be contributing to the problem. The ammonia smell it creates is 'in competition' with the ammonia in their pee, so they 'top up' their own smell.

Try washing the area with biological washing solution. That seems to kill those smells. And if they're inclined to go in a particular spot, try feeding them there. They don't tend to soil their dining area.

Oh, and a check up at the vet's might be in order, just to satisfy yourself that there's no medical reason for this.

Best of luck.

Darth.

If they haven't been neutered/spayed this can sometimes help.

They may be marking their terrority.
