Laya do Laya pay out-patient claims if you don't renew?

I submitted receipts for out-patient expenses to Laya in October, and they returned them with a letter stating:
Thank you for your out-patient claim.

Please find enclosed all receipts which relate to your next renewal. Out-patient claims should only be submitted once yearly following your renewal date.
Does this mean that if I switch provider they will not pay? If so, is this unique to Laya? I've never seen this with VHI.

Any experiences with claiming after switching would be appreciated.
 
When was your renewal due?
Most providers request you claim once per year, at the end of the cover year.
