dell battery warning

I bought a cheap Dell inspirion laptop Christmas 12 months ago and around January a message kept popping up that the battery is critical and to replace. I didn't. Now the mesage has gone and when I go into the battery settings all seems fine.
If the battery does die will the laptop still work on AC power?

Yeah, the battery on my Dell died nearly two years ago and the laptop still works perfectly on AC.

seem to remember some dell batteries were recalled a while back with some getting a free replacement. might be worth checking their website.
