Cost of plastering job

what sort of money would it cost to re-plaster the front of a 3bed-semi ?

and would the old (30 ~ 40 years) plaster need to pulled down first....

it would cost quite a bit as the work may involve scaffolding etc. You would need a good plaster to have a look and give a quote. To plaster on top of plaster will only save the money required to remove the old and the old may be coming away from the wall anyway. The best job would be to remove the old and then re-plaster.

You also need to consider how the extra thickness of plaster coats will impact on the exterior trim and details such as window reveals/ window frames, barge, fascia, soffit and other architectural details. Will original detail be lost? If the existing rendering has been painted this will make replastering difficult as render requires a good mechanical key to achieve mechanical strength.
