Married, 1 income, 2 children under 18.
Wife is not earning money.

We are owed 2009 and 2010 Home Carers credit, which I think is €900 per year.

Does this mean I will get €1800 refund, or does it just mean that the amount of earnings in the higher rate band is reduced? i.e. I will get back c.50% of €1800??

Thanks.

It means you will get €1,800 as it's a credit rather than a relief, if of course you have paid at least €900 paye in each year (which im sure you have).

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

Revenue just transferred €328.90 into my account for 2009. The credit for 2009 was €900.

That means I was taxed at 63.45%, unless it affected me in some other way or they found some other issue with my setup.

Request a P21 and find out why. You must have been underpaid by the difference previously. You should get the full credit as I said unless you didnt pay sufficient paye.
