Christmas in New York

I have been wanting to spend Christmas in new York for yeas and am planning to go this year. What is the best way to go about booking,is it better to book Flights&Hotel seperately or go direct with a travel company or book online. Where is the best place to stay and at the same time being close to all the sites etc.

Book flights and accommodation separately - but price a package too just to be sure you are getting the best deal.
The sites are spread out but there is great transport system. Last time I was there (March 2010) staying in Holiday in on 26th between 6th and 7th. We found it to be a great location to getting to everything.
Enjoy it's a great city.

Just back myself. Stayed in the Exelsior hotel on west 81st, beside the museum. Great location for quiet high quality eateries that are still cheap away from the hustle and bustle. The subway a-b-c line are a 2 min walk away and will have you in the Rockerfeller Center/Mix in about 15 mins. Was ideal location wise in my opinion.
