Chip & Pin - mandatory or not?

Just wondering if chip and pin is mandatory or not in Ireland?

Is there an exact paragraph stating either way? Thanks in advance.

It'll depend on your bank. From what I remember, existing merchants didn't have to upgrade but if they didn't and a customer presented a chip card which was processed by magstripe and later turned out to be a fake, the bank would accept no liability at all.
