"change in amount of tax relief deducted at source": mortgage up by €130 PM?!

Hi

Got a letter from my mortgage provider with standard wording re "tax relief..." as per thread title.

Have received these before but generally the amount only ever seemed to have been changed by €10 - €20 or so.

Suddenly now though I'm told that my monthly payment will increase by €130.

I'm not aware of any changes to my personal circumstances or what may have affected this - obviously I'm going to phone my provider but before I do so, does anyone know what might be going on?
 
The rate of TRS for non-FTBs was decreased from 20% to 15% in the last budget, effective January 1st - could it be that?
 
Increase by 130 per month?That's quite a lot. How long into your mortgage are you and what's the outstanding amount? Something looks funny there so I can understand your apprehension.

Just phoned them - that's exactly what it is WS :(

So, anyone who hasn't reckoned on this and who hasn't been advised yet - it's coming.

This will affect anyone who has been paying a mortgage for at least 7 years I am told.

How does that explain an increase of 130e? that seems a huge amount for a 5 percent reduction.
 
5% reduction coupled with the drop in interest rates and an increase in the capital repayment part of the mortgage might do it though.

I'm not a FTB and my TRS (4 yrs of 20 yr mortgage) was halved due to change in relief and lower interest repayment.

sounds more like you've entered your 8th year when the max relief is €450 per person (15% of €3k in 2009) rather than €2000 per person (20% of €10k in 2008)

Ah OK - so 2 things have maybe happened - we are into our 8th year (which sounds about right) and in addition, the TRS was reduced by the budget anyway?
