Hi

I have recently taxed my car but it was invovled in an accident and is liekly to be written off. Can I claim back the tax if/when it is written off.

Yes definitely it happened to me too. Ring your Motor Tax Office and they'll send you the relevant forms. If your car is a write off and I'm assuming it is a dismantler may well have bought it and you will need to get the Certificate of Destruction. It is the date on this Certificate as to when the refund starts not the date of the accident. I lost a month of tax this way. Once you get the relevant forms they need to be signed by the Gardai. If you don't have the original tax disc the Motor Tax Office have a form for this which also needs to be signed by the Gardai.
 
Thanks guys...............it would appear that the form posted by elitist doesnt require a certificate of destruction just a garda stamp???
