I have a reasonably sized defined contribution pension fund and am trying to plan for the doomsday scenario where Ireland leaves the Euro. I rang Mercer and they told me the fund would be transferred into local currency (An Punt Nua) if we left the Euro. So therefore my life savings would be reduced to whatever the new currency was worth.
Is it be possible to move my pension fund to another country/currency - for example to UK or to Sterling.? What other implications would I need to consider other than currency risk.?
