Can I claim Self-emplyed husbands tax credits

Hi, hope I have posted this in the correct forum. My husband is now unemployed but has up until now been classified as self-employed. He is in the process of applying for JA or whatever he may be entitled to. I work full time - can I claim his tax credits?

I claim my self employed husbands tax credits and get the carers allowance as he earns less than €6,000 per year and minds the kids. We don't claim any benefits though and we submit a joint assessed form 12 every year.
