Can a Mobile number be hacked and used to send spam?

I don't normally answer witheld numbers but I received 8 or 9 missed calls within a 30 minute period so decided to pick it up. When I did I had a youngish sounding girl (mid to late teens) on the phone who started abusing me, accusing me of sending her pornographic texts! I told her that I hadn't sent her anything of the sort but she just kept shouting that I had and I was a sicko etc, to stop sending them or she would effing well report me to the guards. I was quite upset and just hung up but now I am getting a little worried. The phone is with me at all times and as I am at home today there is no way anyone else could have used it. She offered to send me the text but I said no to that.

Is it possible someone could have hacked into my phone and used the number? It's an 02 pre pay.

There is nothing in my Sent Items, on either my phone or webtext ( which I rarely use but can still get into so I assume that has not been hacked)

Any suggestions/advice welcomed as it's starting to prey on my mind a bit now!
 
Best advice would be to get onto 02 and see if they have any records of the two phones making contact prior to the calls you got.
 
Just ignore - more like a silly girl playing silly games. First of all, any perv with a bit of cop would use hit 'number not sending' key. By answering (and getting upset) you are giving a perverse feedback to this sicko. If she really got these lewd pictures, she would have first gone to the Gardai. But you could have a word with the Garda yourself - if someone with a defective heart got this kind of call it could have serious repercussions.

02 confirmed no picture or mms had been sent from the phone.

It did occur to me - after I posted - it was most likely someone just messing but I got such a fright.

02 were not able to give me the number she rang from so there is probably little point in informing the Guards at this point but at least I know 02 can back me up that nothing was sent from my phone.

O2 would not give the number to YOU.
However they would give it to the Gardai in the event of a formal complaint.
 
If the number was withheld it's quite possible that you were the victim of one of those phone pranks were the person pranking you can hear what you are saying while the prank company play a recorded message.

I've been the victim of a "you got my daughter pregnant" prank call (at least I hope it was a prank call!).
 
Thanks. I really did ponder about complaining to the Guards but it seems a bit petty in the scale of things, I wish I could get my hands on the girl though!

I don't think it was a pre-recorded prank call because the girl was responding to me directly and at one point she was talking to someone else.

It was a silly prank but at least next time I will know what to say.

OP, don't worry about it, sounds like a prank. I get quite a few of them, the younger lads that work with us find it funny to try and wind me up. Well atleast I assume it's them or there friends. Some can be quite funny actually.
