First of all the BIK way of working out tax is a joke.
Company car drivers are encouraged to drive more to reduce liability.

https://www.grantthornton.ie/insigh...ompany-vehicle-bik-rules-from-1-january-2023/

My Bro drives a company car for work as a salesman.
covers from Welford to Donegal

EV doesn't work as he can do huge mileage per day and as I said some customers in Donegal and Sligo.so sufficient charging is not there yet.
Also they are expensive for a decent one that will do decent miles so company are not willing to go down that route.
PHEV are an issue as company can't claim vat on fuel

I guess a lot of company cars are a big perk for execs
This IMHO is a tool of his trade.
He does over 50k a year

He could look for a lower CO2 car although.
He could look for a car allowance, 50k+ a year will destroy his value every few years.
He could look for a 2 seat commercial

Any alternatives.

He's getting the private use of a car provided by his employer.

How much would that cost him if he was to buy his own car and pay all the relevant expenses on it?

An awful lot more than he is paying in BIK, I would say.

Yes a company car is a perk, more for some that others.

He does v little private use as his wife has a car to suit 3 kids
Moving seats and other child stuff is a pain. so they use the private car
This means that a commercial may work.

Not here to argue the merits or not, just looking for alternatives
I am sure there are a few on here that will be caught b this.
