Would anybody know what would be the best monitored alarm for a semi detached house in the Dublin area?

I used these guys and cannot recommend them highly enough - http://www.Name deleted as company has threatened us with defamation over criticism.ie

Most companies will specialise in only one or two brands. Pretty much every alarm currently on the market will support monitoring. So the real differentiator is the service/ price offered. Based on my experience, and feedback of many others, stay clear of PhoneWatch (both in terms of price and old hardware).

HKC alarms are very popular, but if you want mobile access, you have to pay €8 for the app and an ongoing fee to use their service. The Siemens app has no such charge.

I'm seeing this a lot about Phone Watch. But outside of the cost (if some is prepared to pay that), what is the issue with the equipment? I know with the newer equipement you cant switch alarm providers as they cant service it. But they can service the old GE / Simon boxes.

PhoneWatch were bought out by a Norwegian company, Sector Alarm, so now they only install their own outdated and overpriced equipment. They also only install a very limited number of sensors, the systems they recommend will only detect a burglar once they're already in the house. They try to convince the customer this is all you need, asking for further protection/ sensors quickly escalates the price to the ridiculous. So a burglar could enter through a bedroom window and have free run of that room, and perhaps others before passing by the one or two internal motion detectors triggering the alarm.

Most other alarm providers will recommend a proper perimeter protection system that will trigger as someone attempts to break in, so more likely to put them off entering in the first place. With all other alarm providers, you will not be locked into the most expensive monitoring in the country, and will have the option of shopping around every time your contract comes up for renewal.
