Hi,

I want to put a stove into a log house. I need it to be as close to the wall as possible with the flue exiting from the top. Because the walls are timber what can I put onto the wall to stop the heat from the stove transferring to the wall?
I have considered glass, granite similar to hearth, tiles and stone.
Any suggestions or links to something that might be suitable? Needs to be 750mm x 750mm.

Thanks,

nicky

Scamill board is the standard material for blocking the transfer of heat. It can be obtained from any good building materials supplier. Cost app €50 and is not unlike chipboard in texture and appearance. App 100cm by 100cm by 2cm thick. Easy to saw and use. You also need to check the regulations re the distance of the flue from the walls. They may be slightly overstated but for insurance purposes better to be safe than sorry.
