Myself and g/f staying in self catering aprt for 1 week in July.

Any recommendations for things to see or do in the area or overall clare area?

Ailwee Caves, Craignaowen Project, Burren Perfumery, Doolin, Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park......

The Burren, get out and walk it!
Ailwee caves or if you're much more adventurous contact the adventure centre and they may be able to bring you underground into an untouched cave.
Doolin, for the music, craic and boat to Inisheer.
Cliffs of Moher
Fab beachs all over coast. Learn to surf at Lahinch.
Eat at Gregans castle, Ballinalacken castle, Byrnes in Ennistymon
Go to Galway city for a day, there's nearly always some festival on!
Loop head peninsula, total unspoilt nature and few tourists.
Ennis, nice small town, good boutiques.

10 kilometers down the road, you will find Spanish Point.... take a long walk nothing else matters...

Was going to post a similar query about Doolin during August but no need now. Fingers crossed for the weather !!

found ailwee caves very expensive for a family but maybe not for a couple. check the net (heritage island.ie) for two for price of one etc. Tesco do days out so free entrance into many of the above.

Here we are in the County Clare its a long long way from here to there, there's the Burren and the Cliff of Moher, the Tulla & the Kilfenora (listen to the song, captures a lot of it!).

Innisheer is one of the planet's special places, walk it at your leisure (on a fine day if you can), the shelter of the high wall, the sound of the sea etc etc. Also Miltown Malbay around the time of the Willie Clancy week

Dont miss the cliff drive west of Kilkee (head out the "west end" (south of the bay/beach) and turn left). Also on the tip of loop head around the lighthouse is lovely. Catch a local club football match for "manly stuff" and play "spot the forward" ...... (management accepts no responsibility if there are no forwards on display...:D)

As someone already said, head towards Loop Head and stop by Carrigaholt and do the Dolphin Watch in the mouth of the Shannon. Amazing!!

Go to Kilkee and walk along the strand and up towards the cliffs. Up the coast you've got Doonbeg and its wonderful beach beside the golf course. Then onto Quilty, the site of a shipwrecked Spanish Armada. The church contains some of the names of those who lost their lives. Spainish Point is really nice, very busy in summer with surfers. Also have a look in Miltown Malbay, may not be much here but its a nice little spot. Then Lahinch, Cliffs of Moher, Doolin - head out to the Arran Islands from here, the Ailwee Caves, the Burren - stop by the smoke house in Lisdoonvarna to try some salmon. Head inland to Ennis - Market is held every Saturday in the 'Market' which is just off O'Connell Street , Bunratty Folk Park, [broken link removed], [broken link removed], or head east to Scarriff, Lough Derg, and Whitegate.
