Antivirus boot disk

WinXP boots enter logon password avast compaining in background of virus found, comp stays stuck at the loading personal settings screen.
Can I get an antivirus boot disk to boot to cd & perform scan from here.
Any recommendations greatfully appreciated.

forgot to mention that have already tried booting to safe mode, this hangs also

Try googling "Ultimate Boot Cd 4".

I've used is a couple of times. It boots a cut down version of XP and has an anti-virus program on there that you can update and then scan.

It's worth a try.
