Air vent - gas fire

Is it a regulation to have to have an air vent in a room with a gas fire - if so, are they a DIY job? The window has a trickle vent which can be set to be locked open.

From my experience a vent in the window won't suffice (unless the gas fire is one that has it's own box). Two sources of air are required (a chimney and a vent).

I'd imagine that you could add a vent yourself if you are sufficiently experienced. Otherwise a registered gas installer can do it.

Had to get a downstairs bed / bathroom built for my mother , and air vent was installed in both rooms, windows vents would not meet building standards.

All you need to do is drill some holes through wall in shape of vent, and cut wall out with a bolster chisel. You can buy grills/vents in all Builder/Providers.

you need to clarify if it's an (open) gas fire, or a sealed one with a balanced flue.

The open one requires a permanent, open vent, the balanced flue fire does not.

I have one of each, at home.

think it would be an open gas fire. Looks like I'll be drilling at weekend so....will hire kangoo I guess.
