Aer Lingus charges on cancellation

Hi

I recently cancelled a flight with Aer Lingus which I had booked for end of August. Flight was total euros 129.92 of which the breakdown was

Flight 39.98
Tax 77.94
Handling fee 12.00

My gripe is I expected to lose the flight 39.98 and of course the handling fee 12 but I had thought I would get most of the tax and charges back 77.94 - a reasonable admin fee but I got just 37.94 back. An admin charge of 40 euros!!!

Now I gave plenty of advance notice so they can resell the seat but I get charged 40 euros, is this common? Can I do anything? Anybody had similar experience?

its says on the aerlingus website that the admin fee is €20 per person per flight so it is correct

If you want refunds with less penalty, book the FlexiFare. However, for that, you have to be perpared to fork out €300 for a flight that would normally cost only €50.

Thanks, I guess a quick check on the website would have saved me moaning about it on AAM.
