My wife is a 20% band employee without a pension.I have just been moved to job seekers allowance(means tested). If my wife was to take out a pension of say €50 per week,I understand that her wages would decrease by €40 a week.
However,60% of my wife's income allowing for prsi, pension contributions and a per day amount is taken as her means and is deducted from my maximum JSA
payout to arrive at my weekly payment.
So,her means would reduce by €30 and I would consequently get paid €30 more.
Adding the two together,it seems to me that our net loss would only be €10 for a €50 pension contribution.
Have I done my sums right or is there a gaping hole in my understanding of the situation?
