Am i better off on Welfare?

Look, i am simply pointing out that in some cases, NOT ALL, that a person and especially a single parent could possibly be financially better off on welfare. I do not have ' a chip on my shoulder about single mothers'. I simply happen to have a lot of friends who are single parents who tell me...

    Council won't let me sell

If you want out, thats your choice. Put the house on the market and 'they', whether its the Council or Financial Institution can have the rest in installments if they want it. Its not a prison. Or, stop paying the mortgage, leave them repossess the house. They wont be long going after BOTH names...

AH: When 20 years exprire do you own the house or does the claw back just not apply?

After the 20 yrs, you would be in the same position as someone who bought their house normally. Obviously if you took your mortgage out over 30 years then you would not own the house untill the 30 years have passed. After the 20 yrs you can forget it was ever an affordable home.

AH.. Should i get out now???

If i stayed, and in 10 yrs time the house is worth say 300 and i sell then, i would owe the Council thousands. If i go now and buy a house for 235 and sell that in 10 years for 300. then i would not owe the Council anything.

Hi Moving, The deposit does not have to be paid untill the very end, Pretty much just before you get your keys, When your solicitor is transferring the cheque form your bank/building society to the council solicitor, you will then be asked for your deposit. I didnt know you could get 100%...
