Hi,

with all the negative publicity around Vista, does any manufacturer offer XP and Vista on the same PC? Is this a viable idea?

Most will offer Vista with an XP Downgrade but it is easy enough to make a dual boot machine with Vista and XP on it.

I am using both systems on laptop.Vista was installed on this machine first.I bought XP on e-bay from legit company.Created free space on partition using gparted on ubuntu live disc and installed xp in there. If you run into problems with the XP install disc not seeing the HDD,check out my thread"xp install disc not seeing HDD".Scott88 provided a link to a brilliant site.Well worth the effort IMO

Depending on what you need to do with the second OS you should consider virtualization software (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86_virtualization)
Install Win XP as the main OS on your machine and then use VirtualBox to host whatever other OS you want (caters for most common OSs). It is free and much more complete than its competitor VMWare Server.
Dual boot is dead baby! Virtualization is here!
