X Ray Procedure

Hello,
I was in to the local hospital yesterday for an x ray on my leg at my Doctor's request,( I have an annoying pain running down through it ).
Anyway, the x ray took 10 seconds and the nice lady came out to me and said to call my doctor after 7 to 10 days for the results.
I am just wondering what happens next ? Does a doctor annalise the X ray's there and gives a diagnoses or is the x ray sent back to the Doctor and he makes the diagnoses ?
Why does it take so long as well ?

Hi
A specialist doctor will look at it (a radiologist), and send a result to your doctor.
Presumably there's a delay because lots of people have x rays, each of which has to be looked at, and possibly be reviewed by a second doctor (to reduce the chance of making a mistake in interpreting the result).
Then the result has to be dictated, then a secretary has to type the report, then someone has to print it off, post it, then An post has to deliver it..7-10 days.
Unless of course you go privately, when you will have your result by return fax in your own doctors surgery the same day!
Nicola
PS your GP does not normally get a physcial copy of the X ray

Pablo - I think they have a radiologist read the x-ray and then send the radiology report and x-ray back to your GP. Or possibly just send the x-ray back. I reckon its just the admin work that takes so long.
