I am sending a cheque to a teenager who was lamenting that she has never received a cheque with a birthday card - she was listening to the older kids talking about getting cheques for their birthdays but people don't really write cheques these days. Is it legal to write a message on a cheque? ie. instead of crossing a cheque write Happy Birthday across it instead? Thanks
Whatever about legal, it is not advisable. And the point about the payee having to have a bank account is well made. Having to queue to lodge the cheque would negate any pleasure enjoyed by receiving it.
