Thanks to a previous post I will be seeking to get a better rate on my investment property by transferring mortgage to own home in which I have a lot of equity - will qualify for NIB tracker + .5%. Can I still write off the rental income against the interest on the portion of the loan that refers to the rental property.

All replies appreciated.

You can write off interest on any loan used to purchase or renovate an investment property against rental income from that property regardless of how the loan is sourced or on which property it is secured. Obviously you can't claim owner occupier mortgage interest relief on the same interest though even if the loan is secured on the PPR.

And you can only offset the interest against your rental income if you have registered the property with PRTB.
