Would you take a public service job in the current climate?

I'm on a panel following interview last year and have been told there is a new vacancy. It would probably mean a drop of up to 20% salary but I don't have a work pension - only a private one. Current employment reasonably secure - insofar as anything can be. There is an outside possiblity of difficulties depending on how particular companies fare during the recession.

Hours would be better - no more targets - bit scared it would be boring. It could be very interesting.

I'd love opinions please.

Would consider it myself, over time surely you could climb the ladder......... or use the better hours to further your education. But then alot would depend on your circumstances , is security/stability high on your list of priorities.

Why would you think that you will have no targets?

A lot depends on the nature of the job - is it a general post or a specialist post? Civil service or a public body?

When I say no targets I mean no monetary targets.
It's a specialist role in the Civil Service.

There may be a vacancy but are they allowed fill it? There is a ban on all new hires so while you might be offered the job you may not get a start date!

if the job is available I would take it Pension/security will I think be even more important in years to come. The civil Service will always be looked after their unions will ensure that
