just wondering if anyone else thinks this is crazy.one of the guys i work with was asked to work on saturday which is overtime as our hours are monday to friday. however he didn't turn up for work on saturday and when he came in for work on monday the foreman told him he would have to work a day for nothing to make up for not coming in on saturday. Apparently this is company policy as a way of punishing people for missing days!

not doing OVERtime is not missing days !!!

Tell him to shove it and dare him to try to dock the wages...

He's trying it on and waiting for a reaction which will tell him your mate is a walkover....

A call to citizens advice (confidential and impartial advice, tel no in golden pages) and they will advise you straight away if this is legal or not.

This is not legal.

Your friend may have been unprofessional by not turning up , after committing to, but you cannot dock time he will work.

He most likely weighed up the situation and for now this is the best fix for him. He should clarify what is legal (as per Clubman's advice). It may prove too inconvenient for him to fight this situation just now. He will probably find that this situation leads him to find a new employer in the new year.... This is really quite appalling.
