I am considering a job offer from an American (start-up) company that would be based in Ireland travelling throughout Europe. They don't have an Irish entity of any sort, and chances are that I would be the only employee here.
My question is, how are tax/prsi & employee rights (working time, contractual obligations) handled in this situation? I would appreciate any general guidance that people could give me.

Will you be employed from an office based in the EU or directly from a US office?
You will still be covered by Irish employment law AFAIK, but if you are employed from their Paris office you may enjoy extra benefits.

It's early days so I believe I will be employed from the US at first. Is it possible for me to handle the tax on their behalf without going down the route of setting up my own ltd company and contracting? Perhaps they might pay me a gross amount and I could employ an accountant to organise PRSI contributions etc?

(OT: Purple - Here's something odd: I can't see your posts when I look at them on another computer of mine, IE7. I can only see "Purple" with a blue line directly underneath as if you had entered a blank post. Applies to all of your posts on the site it seems.)

That may not be a bad thing :D
Maybe your other computer has some sort of BS filter?
