work visa or work permit

Hi All

I am not sure if this is right place for information but here is my problem. I am a Dentist from Non EU country and my husband is working here for a long time ( he has stamp 4 and I have stamp 3).

I can't work here. I have lots of job offers but all offers were withdrawn when they find out that I would need a work permit. ( I do qualify for "spousal visa" but none of the employer were ready to process it.)

So I was wondering if there are any consultants companies who are ready to make me employee and then I can work as a consultants for them in plaeces where I got a offer.

Any help in this area would be helpful. Or any way of getting sramp 4 in Ireland.

Found your message googling for some updated info for spousal work permit. My problem is absolutely the same and I am trying to figure our how to tackle it. What I found ( less ot more useful pr at least promising) - at the moment there are some discussions on that topic, maybe soon some procedures will change. What I really wonder - if there are really many individuals like we that need these spousal visas? As far as I know from those who arrived in Irealnd five years before most gave birth to childaren and they do not need any further permissions any more. So I understood that employers do not even understand what this is about, this spousal visa! All they understand is that it's "work permit".
So what we can do - lets keep in touch and share information on this matter. OK?

Maybe Ramlal you could do a little bit of work on the black market. Looking at all the post on AAM about the cost of dental treatment in Ireland you could do very well.

I dealt with work permit applications for a company I used to work for (a factory). It is an awful lot of red tape ever since the 10 new countries joined the EU in 2004 and it is now practically impossible to get a work permit for a general labourer.

Having said that, there are certain categories where work permits are more easily obtainable particularly highly qualified individuals (in some cases the application is just a formality) and I would say dentistery could be included in this.

I have not been dealing with applications for over two years now so I don't know the current status.

I have one of these myself, and the process was extremely easy and straight forward. Getting the application was actually the hard part (the embassy wasn't very helpful). Key thing to note though is that I had to apply from my home country. I got mine 5 years ago, I think they've changed the application process slightly since then. The visa is 'mine', and not the employers, so I've been able to move jobs without a problem, or having to reapply.

That said, it looks like it's being replaced sometime next year. There's going to be a 'green card' scheme. Details are here:

So you cannot apply for work authorization as you need a employer for you and no employer will apply it for you.

Do dentists not employ other dentists. Surely they are not all self employed. The HSE I am sure employ dentists.
