word 2000 - file contains *{^^^

I saved a word file onto a floppy disk and when I try to open on a different PC from the floppy, the text is all "*{~#!

Both PC's have the same version of Office - Office 2000.

This has happened to me a few times, so I'd doubt if the file is corrupt and I have tried different floppies.
 
There could be a physical problem with the A:/ drive. Have you tried saving it to the HDD and then copying the file over to the floppy..?
 
It could be an odd font that is not installed on the second machine.

You could also try to save the file as an rtf file (Rich text), not as fancy as a proper word doc, but might at least be readable!

Do you mean that literally those specific character patterns appear or that the content simply looks like garbage?
